In what ways has your time in the College of Education and Human Development shaped you as a future educator?
My experiences in the CEHD have helped prepare me for my future career by teaching me the systems and structures that go into building a good learning environment. Through my classes, field experiences and opportunities to work with other educators, I have learned that teaching is more than just creating a lesson. It is about building relationships, understanding your students, creating a supportive classroom environment and meeting students where they are.
What is one experience or opportunity that has made a lasting impact on you?
Being part of C4 Bridge is an experience that I will never forget. As I first transitioned into college, having a community within the College of Education & Human Development and being prepared for my classes was a big help. C4 Bridge gave me a community I could turn to, the resources and tools that made my transition into college very easy.
Being able to participate in the program again as a Near Peer in recent years has been so rewarding because I now get to be that support for other students. It has been meaningful to help students who are entering college feel welcomed, prepared and like they have someone in their corner.
C4 Bridge Programs at UofL
C4 Bridge is a dynamic, week-long experience created just for incoming first-year students majoring in education. This non-residential program gives students a head start on what it means to be a future teacher inside and outside the classroom. Participants explore how educators shape learning, especially in math and science, while building the mindset, confidence and professionalism needed to thrive in college and beyond.
