About and Eligibility
College of Education and Human Development students in elementary teacher education programs are eligible for the international teaching experience in Belize. Applicants must be working toward early childhood, elementary, or special education certification (LBD or MSD) degree. Other applicants may be considered. Accepted students must enroll in EDSP 397 to participate.

Pre-Departure Class Dates: There will be six mandatory two-hour class sessions. The first session will be held on January 6, 2026(evening time TBD) and the remaining five sessions in spring 2026.
Total Program Fee: $2770
Program Fee Payment: The $2770 program fee will be posted directly to your student account by the Bursar’s Office.
Program Fee Includes: Airfare, accommodations, meals, excursions, In-Country Transportation, UofL polo shirts (for teaching). Tuition for the EDSP 397 course is included.
Program Fee Does Not Include: Passport and personal items (gifts, souvenirs, etc.)
Experience: Participants are provided a culturally rich experience while they teach in and learn about their chosen field as they are immersed in the cultures of an international village school, Red Bank, (Stann Creek District) Belize. College of Education and Human Development students learn firsthand the protocols and practices of its school, the curriculum, and instructional practices. Students will spend five full days working in Belize schools. When students are not teaching, the group will participate in cultural excursions such as visiting a Mayan ruin, a rainforest, and a coral reef.
