June is donor appreciation month at the College of Education and Human Development, and we are honored to highlight a very special alumni who chose, along with his uncle, to establish a named endowment to honor his mother's service at CEHD.

Aaron Flaker is a two-time UofL graduate, who earned his undergraduate degree in Business in '94 and his MBA in '98. Aaron and his uncle, Emmy Award winning broadcaster/ producer Rick Redman, wanted to honor Kathy Redman, Aaron's mother, who served as an administrative assistant in the CEHD for decades.

Through a series of thoughtful conversations within the team at Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, Aaron and his uncle Rick established a named endowment for scholarship support. The result is the Kathy Redman Educational Scholarship for Students from Appalachia (KRESSA), reflecting Kathy's deep love and connection to that region of the country.

Scholarship played an important role in Aaron's success at UofL, as he was the recipient of a Minerva Scholarship, designed for students with a parent who was an employee at UofL. Aaron (who was also the Cardinal Bird Mascot) and his uncle have created a legacy of scholarship support within CEHD, while also honoring the deep service of his mother, Kathy.
